The Western Institute of Technology - Senior High School Student Council on Friday, November 19,held a webinar tackling cyber security issues and how ordinary users can prevent them from occurring.

The opening remarks was graced by Ms.Jo Anne Badrina, Principal of the WIT-SHS. She emphasized the convenience technological breakthroughs have given to humans over the years. The role it played when the pandemic struck, as we shift to the virtual world. But rampant activities such as hacking are needed to be addressed. She added that the webinar will be an immense help to those who participated. Ms. Badrina then welcomed the international guests, Mr. Tyler Duong and Mr. Joshua Chang in her concluding statement.

Cyber Ethics were one of the topics discussed during the talk. Cross-Site Scripting, ClickJacking, Phishing and other online scams that draw users from subscribing to were given explanation and tips in countering them. The speakers also highlighted the damage a malware and spyware can do to a personal computer. Internet basics such as connecting to a router may pose a threat to personal information as stressed by Mr. Tyler Duong. He then proceeded to demonstrate how a hacker could steal information through the internet.

After the talk, the speakers arranged a "kahoot" quiz segment. They provided monetary prizes to the top three winners. An open forum then followed where participants asked questions subject to the topic and those were answered exclusively by the guests.

Mr. Albert Triñagan, the Senior High School Coordinator, expressed his gratitude towards the speakers in sharing their knowledge. In his closing remarks, he pointed out the importance of cyber security. "If you want to have a safer, a better, and a more secured online world, we need to do our part", he uttered.
